PRESENTATION

The Stricto Sensu Program in Integrated Dentistry  Sciences of  UNIC aims the graduate formation with a humanistic and social vision of the Brazilian reality, with didactics teaching and research experience so that  they can be managers and influencers of practices transformation in health. The future graduate student will be able to develop the teaching activity, based on scientific and ethical parameters that contribute to the formation of responsible professionals  and aware of the Brazilian population’s need. In parallel with the training aspect of human resources, the course emphasizes tasks facing the realization of dissertations, research activities and publications of scientific articles and dissemination with a focus on research projects that aim at positive practices transformation.

The associated Doctorate UNIC-UFPel in Integrated Dentistry Science was approved at the 161th Meeting of the Council of  Technical-Scientific Higher Education - CTC-ES/CAPES.

Target Audience

Graduated students in Dentistry and alike areas.

CONCENTRATION AREA

Dentistry (Master and Doctoral)

This concentration area aims the professionals formation with a critical, reflective, humanistic and social  vision of  the  Brazilian reality mainly related to SUS, enabling him or her to teaching and research with a view to improve these practices. Researches are performed in different dentistry specialties with a focus on those which  require direct action on issues involving practical application. The future master/PhD is able to disseminate concepts based on scientific evidence through the development of  dissertation projects geared to the positive transformation of these practices.

Bioscience (Master’s degree)

This concentration area aims the professionals formation that add to a practical experience a multidisciplinary vision connecting Dentistry to others health areas and biological science. Added to this, it enables this professional critical, reflective, humanistic and social analyzes of realities in Brazil mainly related to SUS, enabling the teaching and research with a view to improve these practices. In this area, studies integrating the dentistry to other health areas are performed with views to solve and improve, through scientific methodized research, issues that may enhance existing practices or deploy new practices. The future master is able to disseminate concepts of integrated approach in the areas of health, based on scientific evidence through the development of the dissertation projects geared to the creation and improvement of integrative practices with a multidisciplinary approach. The area can be characterized by the commitment to the formation and training of human resources in the strict sense, considering the needs and regional demands, which allows improvements and enhancement in the dentistry teaching and its muldisciplinary contextualization within a broader context in the health area. This concentration area is contemplated for all professionals in the health area, including dentists.

RESEARCH LINE

  • Research Line 1: Pathophysiological and therapeutic aspects of orofacial alterations (Master and  Doctoral degrees)

This research line aims to evaluate the pathophysiological mechanisms of diseases or injuries that affect the stomatognathic system in order to understand their onsets and evolutions. In this research line  experimental investigations are carried out which can contribute to the knowledge of temporomandibular disorders, parafunctions and  occlusion disorders .

  • Research Line 2: Biology of the microorganism-host relationship and human health (Doctoral Degree)

This research line aims to evaluate the relationship between biofilm and host in the dichotomy between health and disease. In this research line investigations are carried out  on the response of microorganisms that inhabit different sites of the human body, different biomaterials, as well the health and life quality of individuals subjected to trauma, stress, hormonal  and systemic changes.

  • Research Line 3: Research, Development and Evaluation of drugs, techniques and innovations in the health area (Master and Doctoral degrees)

This research line aims the development and evaluation of new drugs, techniques and innovations with an effective application or potential in the health professional practice. In this research  line, investigations are carried out  with focus on physico-chemical, biological, therapeutic and diagnostic proprieties.

  • Research Line 4: Social and public health dentistry (Doctor’s Degree)
  • This research line aims to assess the distribution of the different phenomena related to the health/disease processes in different areas of health science. Thus, the results of the studies involved in this research line aim the prevention of specific diseases and the promotion of public health policies.
